With autumn just around the corner and classes for area schools back in session, that can only mean one thing: Friday night football.

Galion and Bucyrus continued their historic rivalry in the battle for the Seccaium Park Trophy. While the game was a back and forth contest, Galion pulled ahead of Bucyrus 29 – 22 after a 5 yard scamper by Arby Thompson.

Thompson led the Galion Tigers in rushing with 60 yards on ten carries and a single touchdown.

Jacob Fryer led the Tigers through the air going 9 of 14 with 116 yards and 2 scores.

Leading the Tigers with receptions was Cario Davison who snagged 8 receptions for 116 yards and 2 trips to pay dirt.

Cole Murtiff Led the Redmen through the air and on the ground as the quarterback went 17 of 26 for 202 yards and two touchdowns through the air. On the ground Murtiff went 9 yards on 15 attempts and one touchdown.

Austin Williams led Bucyrus’ receiving corps with 3 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Bucyrus will host Crestline next, while Galion will travel to Madison.

Crestline football 2It was a dark Knight for Crestline, as they opened up the new Hutson Stadium against the Northmor Knights, who proceeded to run over the Bulldogs with a final score of 53-12.

Lane Foster of Northmor amassed 141 yards on 11 carries for 3 touchdowns. Foster also added a two point conversion, as well as 2 extra points in the lopsided affair.

Wynford’s opening game of the season resulted in a one sided affair with the Liberty Benton Eagles outpaceing the Royals 28-6.

Wynford’s lone score came on a 4 yard touchdown run by Hayden Rhoades.

Rhoades ran for 43 yards on six attempts.

Liberty Benton’s rushing game featured two 100 yard rushers Friday night. Austin Combs carried the rock for 177 yards, while teammate Nathan Craft added 103 yards for the team.

Wynford will host Ridgedale next week.

In other action around the area Buckeye Central opened the season with a win against New London 39 to 8, Colonel Crawford defeated Mt Gilead 51-24, Pleasant beat Mohawk 48-6, Elgin defeated Ridgedale 34-0, South Central took one from Seneca East 39-28, and Carey defeated Upper Sandusky 35-14.
