BUCYRUS — The 56th kicked off over the weekend at Suburban Lanes.

On Saturday, half the field of the top 16 women bowlers were sent to the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament. All scores include handicap.

Deb Mason defeated Michelle Stahl, 933-831. Emily Groves got by Shelley Yancy, 905-856, Robin Pangallo dropped Cynthia Hester, 891-816, and Patricia Morris was 96 pins better than Amy Brewer, 915-819.

Charlie Britt slipped past Deb Higginbotham, 938-916, Tacsha Ridgeway held off Tricia Breighner, 894-841, Lisa Penwell broke 1,000 in beating Schelby Gabel, 1,014-840, and Char Auxier topped Morgan Swavel, 889-824.

The winners bowled a second session on Sunday. Britt beat Penwell, 980-847, Mason defeated Horsley, 857-745, Groves handled Pangallo, 986-825, and Ridgeway took care of Auxier, 932-849.

In the losers’ bracket, Higginbotham edged Gabel, 843-840. Swavel downed Breighner, 969-857, Stahl stopped Brewer, 870-806, and Hester was 50 better than Yancey, 899-849.

Gabel, Breighner, Brewer, and Yancey were eliminated from the field. Britt, Mason, Groves, and Ridgeway remain in the winners’ bracket and will bowl again on Saturday.

Bowling continues in the losers’ bracket on Tuesday. Stahl will take on Penwell, Hester faces off with Auxier, Higginbotham goes against Horsley, and Swavel meets Pangallo.

The four losers of those matches will drop from the field, trimming the field to eight bowlers for the second weekend beginning on Saturday.

The finals are scheduled for March 16.
