The first week of high school football featured blow outs a-plenty as four of Crawford County’s games were decided by at least 21 points.

Renewing their rivalry on the gridiron with Liberty-Benton, the Wynford Royals opened their season on a winning note defeating the Eagles 41-14.

The Royals and Eagles were evenly matched through the early part of the second quarter. From there it became the Zach Hoffman show, as he scored three of Wynford’s final four unanswered touchdowns.

The Royals ruled the ground game amassing 408 yards on 49 carries, and all six of the team’s touchdowns. Leading the way on the ground for Wynford was Hoffman as he torched the Eagles for 209 yards on 28 attempts for four scores. Hoffman also went 7 of 5 through the air for 46 yards. Robbie Miller wasn’t far behind, as he rushed for 176 yards on 17 attempts and another touchdown.

On Liberty-Benton’s side of the ball Austin May led the Eagles through the air, completing 10 of 14 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. Justin Risner led Liberty-Benton receivers with two receptions for 110 yards and score.

With the win Wynford improves to 1-0 on the season. They will play Bucyrus in the Copper-Kettle Game.
