Harley Shaum may have earned the moniker “the Mechanic” during Colonel Crawford’s 69-44 win over South Central in the boys Division IV sectional championship tilt.
Early in the game at Sandusky Senior High School, the Eagles’ offense was spitting and sputtering while the Trojans jumped out to an early lead. But when Shaum came in and went to work inside, the Colonel Crawford offense had plenty of power to spare.
With Shaum scoring inside, the outside offense opened up for the Eagles’ sharpshooters who responded with nine 3s on the night to pick their 16th win against seven losses.
Although Colonel Crawford trailed 16-13 after one quarter of play, the Eagles outscored South Central 46 to 19 over the next two periods to break the game open.
Derek Burkhart paced the Eagles with 17 points and five 3s. Shaum added 14 off the bench. Both Brody Martin and Hayden Bute added 13.
Michael Ponchel was high scorer for South Central with 13 while Ben Lamoreaux and Aaron Lamoreaux had 10 each. The Trojans’ season ends with a mark of 17-7.
Colonel Crawford will face top-seeded Sandusky St. Mary’s at 6:15 Tuesday night at Willard in a district semifinal. The Panthers defeated Lucas, 54-37, in the first game Friday at Sandusky.
Colonel Crawford will pre-sell tickets to that game beginning Monday until noon on Tuesday. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets sold at the door the night of the game will be $6. Colonel Crawford will keep a portion of the proceeds from tickets it presells.
