Press release
The Galion City School District will host a special dedication ceremony for the new press box at Unckrich Stadium in Heise Park prior to kickoff of the home football game against Pleasant Friday, Oct. 28.
The new press box was a result of a combined effort between the City of Galion, the school district and the Egbert M. Freese Foundation. The structure features three stories, two of which are fully enclosed with windows on both sides, and a third deck for video equipment.
“This press box will be used by both the Galion City School District and the Galion community,” said Kyle Baughn, Galion High School Athletic Director. “We are excited to have this new structure as part of the outstanding Unckrich Stadium facilities.”
The district would like to thank the contractors involved in the project, which included: Fox Plumbing (Galion, OH); Weithman Brothers (Galion, OH); Carter Electric (Galion, OH); Finnegan Construction; Kahls Sounds; Felty & Heinlen; and Mid-Ohio Pipe Line. Jeff Shipman, Freddy Beachy and Jim Myers from the district’s Maintenance Department also played a critical role in completing the project.
“The Galion City School District is incredibly grateful for the assistance provided by the City of Galion and the Freese Foundation,” said Jim Grubbs, Galion Superintendent. “This structure is a true testament to what can happen when leaders work together to help move a community forward.”
The new press box will be used to serve many district and community activities, along with groups involved in these activities. These activities and groups include: High School, Middle School & Youth football teams; High School & Alumni marching bands; High School, Middle School, Youth & Graders baseball teams; High School, Middle School, Youth & YMCA track teams; Pickle Run Festival; Special Olympics; Various All-Star & OHSAA playoff games; and multiple radio, television, internet & news reporters.
