Colonel Crawford graduate Tyler Orewiler continues to soar to new heights at the University of Mount Union.
Orewiler, who is now a senior at Mount Union, was named the NCAA Division III National Field Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He hit the 16-feet, 10-inches mark at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invite this past weekend to win the event.
That mark beat out the school’s previous record of 16-feet, 9.5-inches set by Matt Keller in 1995.
Orewiler currently leads all other NCAA Division III vaulters by 11 inches and is tied for fourth in the nation among all divisions. Last season he earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish in pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships and finished 19th in the event at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
