Colonel Crawford senior defensive back Kaden Schell was back to his old tricks on Friday at Buckeye Central and that resulted in his being named Spitzer Motors Game Changer of the Week for a second time.

kaden-schellSchell, who was named Game Changer on Sept. 30 when he returned an errant punt for a touchdown late in the first half against Bucyrus, made his presence felt on the first possession of the game at Buckeye Central.

Here’s how WQEL’s color commentator Jeff Roberts saw it.

“In the Eagles 34-6 victory over Buckeye Central, Kaden scooped up a Bucks fumble on the first drive of the game and returned it over 30 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles led the entire game after Schell’s first quarter score,” Roberts said. “Colonel Crawford now is 7-2 on the season and primed to make the playoffs in Division VI.”

Going into Friday’s game with the bucks, Schell had made 57 defensive stops and six of those behind the line. He had also recorded an interception and forced fumble.

Owen Ackerman, 23, was named one of Friday’s McDonald’s/Q92 Players of the Game on Friday.

Roberts and WQEL play-by-play man Josh Stallings picked Owen Ackerman of Buckeye Central and Trevor Shawber of Colonel Crawford as their McDonalds/Q92.7 Players of the Game.

Ackerman led the Bucks’ potent rushing attack with 97 yards on 16 carries and also scored the only Buckeye Central touchdown on the evening. Ackerman leads the Buckeye Central ground game for the season with 490 yards and a 5.5 yards-per-carry average. He has also scored six touchdowns and prior to Friday’s contest had made 42 tackles with one forced fumble.

Trevor Shawber of Colonel Crawford scores one of his three touchdowns against Buckeye Central.

Shawber, junior running back and linebacker for the Eagles, put up a team-high 146 yards on just 20 carries. He also scored three rushing touchdowns. That gives Shawber over 990 rushing yards with one week to go in the regular season and 10 trips into the end zone. Shawber is a mainstay for the Eagles on defense and was leading his team with 80 tackles going into Friday’s game.

Spitzer Motors Game Changer of the Week award winners receive a T-shirt commemorating their performance and McDonalds Player of the Game honorees receive a gift certificate for two regular size value meals redeemable at either McDonalds of Bucyrus or Galion.

Each week for the balance of the local high school football season, Crawford County Now will feature winners of the Spitzer Game Changer of the Week and the McDonalds/Q/92 Player of the Game awards on Monday evenings as selected by Jeff Roberts and Josh Stallings.
