NORTH ROBINSON (Crawford County Now) — Colonel Crawford swept both divisions of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference track and field meet here Friday night.
The girls had a little easier time of it, topping Upper Sandusky 174-147, with Carey third at 110. For the Lady Eagles, this marked their sixth straight league championship and ninth in 10 seasons.
The boys battled with nemesis Seneca East, with the Eagles topping the Tigers, 153-148. Carey finished 10 points ahead of Bucyrus to secure third place.
Eagles head coach Preston Foy said his teams had been preparing an entire year for this meet after Seneca East claimed the boys crown in 2024. The Tigers had won the last four league titles.
“We had a really good meet. It really comes down to coaches (Todd) Roston and (Joey) Bauer, they were working on this lineup since last year when we lost,” Foy said. “They had the strategy, and they knew the other teams better than I think some of their own coaches knew their teams.”
SPIRITED BATTLES
Seneca East head coach Ed Phillips appreciated the competition.
“You had some great teams. I think this meet had as much talent overall as we’ve seen. There’s great depth athlete-wise,” he said.
“I think with us and Crawford going at it, it’s just two great teams. Today was their day. Our kids gave us a chance today and I can’t be prouder of the whole team.
“They had the heart of a champion and were in it ’til the bitter end.”
Eagles thrower Dom Dean stood out, winning the discus with a throw of 148-feet, 5 inches, and the shot put at 51-feet, 2 inches. Both were personal records for the junior.
“He said he wanted to go out there today and win both. He didn’t even throw for us last year because of the transfer rules,” Foy said. “He’s worked really hard the past couple weeks and is starting to get confident. He’s starting to peak at the right time and has a bright future.”
His Crawford teammate Luke Christman was runner-up in the discus (142 feet, 11 inches).
Other Eagles contributed with outstanding showings:
- Jacob Cochran (23.33) edged Seneca East’s Bryler Beamer (23.96) in the 200 meters, as both runners recorded personal bests.
Cochran added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 and 400 meters and took third in the high jump.
“Jacob was a difference maker today,” Foy said. “He had to go toe-to-toe with the best sprinters in the league. This is first time we asked him to do that, and he delivered.”
- Adam Scott nabbed first in the 800 meters in 1:58.06. He just beat Owen Gahring of Seneca East at 1:58.98.
- Gabby Roston won the pole vault by a foot and a half with an Ohio Top mark of 11 feet.
- Mira Holt took the 110-meter hurdles in 16.64, a PR, then won the 100 meters in 13.13 seconds and the 400 meters in 1:00.03.
- Junior Rylinn Edgington won the 1600 meters in 5:37.82. Olivia Harding was second with a PR of 5:52.22.
She added a third-place finish in the 200 meters.
- The Lady Eagles 4X100 quartet of Ella Agee, Olivia Hardy, Roston and Brooklyn Good took second to SE’s Isabel Stockmaster, Sayge Miller, Quinlan Burroughs and Cami Lantz, who ran a 51.88.
- Sydney Wirebaugh took third in the discus at 97-6, behind a pair of Carey throwers.
Colonel Crawford hosts the Division III district meet starting Wednesday and Foy will change the focus for his teams.
“It’s going to be their time. We’re going to let them decide where they have the best success, we want to let them run the race with fresh legs,” Foy said.
“You’re not going to see Mira Holt do what she did today. She’s going to get her turn now because she was a team player all year. Our distance guys had a tough day today; they’re going to be able to focus on what they want to in the postseason.
“This is their reward now.”
REDMEN SHINE
Bucyrus freshman Ivan Pirnstill opened some eyes, going 13 feet for a PR in the pole vault.
“Ivan is a special character. He’s been working all winter on pole vault. He loves it,” Redmen head coach Kevin Boggs said. “He kept his composure and the challenging thing was that his pole vault coach was in the trailer timing it. He’s very good about looking for self-corrections.
“His goal is to do three field events and that’s what he does. He’s so athletic. He high jumped today, long jumped and pole vaulted. But pole vault will be his focus going on.”
Pirnstill went to the state indoor meet, along with distance runner Karter Boggs and 4X200 relay team. He placed third in the state as an eighth grader.
“He just works really hard. He has his own pit at home,” Boggs said.
Ethan Schultz of SE took second and Logan Goddard of CC third at 12 feet, 6 inches (a PR).
- A junior, Boggs won the 1600 meters in 4:28.24, topping Evan Schiefer of Seneca East. Schiefer, a senior, took the 3200 meters, clocking 9:58.95.
“Karter wanted to come out and win the mile. He did not like losing it last year. And we knew Evan is stronger in the two mile and we said just hang on as long as you can.”
- Carey nudged Bucyrus in the 4X200 relay with the team of Tripp Phoenix, Bryce Puckett, Eli Steen and Dalen Walter topping the foursome of Maseo Hall, DaShawn Cosey, Demaris Munn-Page and Christian Neal.
The times were 1:32.10 and 1:32.53, respectively. “I knew we were gonna be out bodied. I’m proud of the four boys who ran the relays, and the girls came out and scored in the relays. We’re young and we just try to go out and scrap,” Boggs said.
“Maseo has done the relays and gutted it out. He’s had a great year and he’s struggling with some hip issues right now.
“The relays were awesome and Christian in the 100 (placing third) was in with a very, very fast group. Our 4X400 is a mix of distance and sprinters and they all did their thing.”
That event was won by Phoenix with Jacob Cochran of Colonel Crawford second. Cochran’s 11.54 was a PR.
Other notable efforts:
- Wynford’s Anthony Evans set a new N10 record in the 400 dash with a time of 50.86.
- Corbin Bloomfield of Buckeye Central won the long jump with a meet record of 21 feet, 10.75 inches, an Ohio Top 50 showing.
- Mohawk’s Garrett Rinehart, Jett Loesser, Phoenix Nally and Mason Schimpf won the 4X400 in 3:35.94.
- Isabel Stockmaster won the girls high jump with a PR of 5 feet. Stockmaster teamed with Lady Tiger teammates Sayge Miller, Quinlan Burroughs and Cami Lantz to win the girls 4X100 relay in 51.88.
- Phoenix, a sophomore, won the high jump with a PR of 6 feet, 8.25 inches, which is an Ohio Top 10 ranking. Full results available at https://milesplit.live/meets/669006
