NORTH ROBINSON (Crawford County Now) — Colonel Crawford’s net game was furious and balanced. The result was the Lady Eagles sweep of Northmor 25-7, 25-13, 25-14 in a non-league volleyball match at Mac Morrison Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Sophomore outside hitter Reese Redman scored 8 of her team-high 12 kills in the opening set as the hosts raced out to a 10-1 and never relented. Redman recorded her 500th kill of her career in that set.

“We’re kind of just on a roll. The chemistry is on point right now,” said head coach Jaime Valentine.

After a season opening loss at Elgin in 5 sets, Crawford (10-1) has been unstoppable losing just 3 sets over the past 9 matches.

“They’re all playing very well, have accepted their roles and that’s unmatched,” she said.

Redman added 5 aces with help from a trio of juniors. Alaina Parr had 9 kills and 4 aces, Saylor Holt 8 kills and Emmi Powers 5 kills.

“The kids just experiencing varsity for the first time have done well also, and that’s partly because their experienced teammates have been accepting and everybody has the same goals.”

Northmor began the second set well with a 5-5 tie thanks to Maleah Blevins’ point. But CC pulled away as Parr and Powers had kills, along with aces from Sophia Gray.

Holt finished off the set with a pair of points.

Both teams were in the middle of a 3-match schedule this week. The Lady Eagles host Seneca East Thursday while Northmor visits Fredericktown.

“We knew from scrimmaging them in the summer they’d be good competition,” Valentine said. “It was nice to play as well as we did and keep that intensity going after a win Tuesday.”

Lady Knights (5-1) head coach Shelbie Wiseman said her team struggled early.

“They really executed their game plan and it’s really hard to come back, especially against a good team.

“We play at least 3 games a week for the next several weeks. So our conversation was how mentally tough do we want to be and not let it affect the remaining games. We know 4-0 can turn into 4-8 really quickly,” Wiseman said.

The Golden Knights led 3-1 in set 3 as Kallie Wright had a pair of serving aces and Riley Cooper and Kasey Kincaid posted kills.

However, it was short lived as Redman, Parr and Holt went to work, tying things at 6-6 before a 9-4 run pushed Colonel Crawford ahead. Parr and Holt finished off the set and the match with kills.

“We have 8 seniors, so we know we have the leadership and volleyball skills,” Wiseman said. “It’s just getting a good mix of our younger girls out there too.

“(Crawford) is a good game for us, win or lose. We knew it would be a battle, and we go right back into the (Knox Morrow Athletic Conference) league tomorrow with Fredericktown.”

The Northern 10 Athletic Conference expansion has made it stronger, Valentine said.

“It’s great for the area. The teams we’ve brought in have made this league even better. Every night we have to be prepared, and everyone has to have a different standard.”

The Lady Eagles junior varsity won 25-17, 27-25.
