BUCYRUS — What a difference three days made.
Friday was rainy and cool. So, the 2025 Crawford County Track Meet was moved to Monday at Bucyrus High School.
With temperatures in the 70s, Colonel Crawford swept the meet. The Eagles’ girls outdistanced runner-up Galion, 177-93 and the boys got comfortably past second-place Bucyrus, 162-114.
“We switched to Monday because we knew today was going to be decent weather,” Bucyrus coach Kevin Boggs said. “The kids were excited to host the meet.”
All six county schools had their day in the sun in some way. Four schools boasted MVPs in either track or field events.
“I think it’s pretty awesome,” Colonel Crawford coach Preston Foy said of the diverse representation. “It just shows how balanced this county actually is. It’s always fun to see other schools have success and have their moment as well.”
Only one MVP race was decisive. Colonel Crawford senior Mira Holt scored 40 points to Wynford’s Adison Stuckey’s 26.5 to win the girls track award. Holt finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, and 200- and 400-meter runs.
“Mira Holt had a phenomenal meet,” Foy said. “She wanted to kind of prove that she is the best track athlete in the county. Not only did she do that, I think she is probably one of the better track athletes in the state. She’s been in the state meet since her freshman year. She kind of set a tone today. She is the best in the county.”
The other MVP races — based totally on points scored — were much closer. Boys track, in fact, had co-MVPS. Bucyrus’ Maseo Hall and Galion’s Zach Sallee each finished with 24 points. And the Redmen’s Karter Boggs was third with 21.
“Maseo had a huge day,” Boggs said. “He runs tentative in those 300 hurdles but came out like I told him for a change. He didn’t run them tentative and he came out and ran a great race.”
Hall ran a 44.70 to Colonel Crawford’s Avery Powers’ 46.28. Hall also won 110-meter dash.
For boys field events, Crestline’s Carter Giesige slipped past Bucyrus freshman Ivan Pirnstill, 16-14. On the girls side, Bucyrus freshman Savannah Clark edged Colonel Crawford frosh Emmi Powers, 18-16.
“We knew the freshmen were going to contribute right away,” Boggs said. “Savannah’s had a great year. She doubles with softball. She’s come over after softball, she’s come over on the weekends with Coach (Chris) Stake and worked. She’s trying to balance the two, which is challenging.”
Wynford girls narrowly missed second place with 87 points. Galion boys were third with 85 points.
Two meet records were broken. Holt won the 400-meter run at 59.29 and Wynford’s Anthony Evans set the standard in the same event for the boys with a time of 50.45.
“Today, the goal was to make sure we win the county meet,” Foy said. “We watered down a little bit for some relays and got some other kids involved because we were able to do that. It was a nice thing to see some more kids run.”
“The kids have had a really good day and I’m proud of them,” Boggs said. “Kimmy (Burling) has done well (running). The girls’ (4X100) relay coming in second. I don’t have a lot of girl sprinters anyway.”
