The Buckeye Central Buckettes climbed high school basketball’s version of the stairway to heaven Saturday to cut the nets thanks to Brooke Karl’s three-point buzzer beater in the Division IV sectional tournament at Ontario.
Karl’s shot bank shot clipped Colonel Crawford 39-38 and advanced the Buckettes to the district tournament at Shelby where they will face New Riegel at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Colonel Crawford’s Katie Siegel had given the Lady Eagles a two-point lead with a pair of free throws with just 3.6 seconds remaining. Buckeye Central got the ball to mid-court and called timeout with nine-tenths of a second remaining to set up Karl’s heroics.
Karl led Buckeye Central with 14 points and Kilee Kimmel backed her up with 11. Siegel paced the Lady Eagles with 16 points.
Buckeye Central is now 11-13 on the season while Colonel Crawford finishes with a mark of 6-18.
