The Crestline boys basketball teams got a little experience under their belts this month and a little confidence to carry them into next season.
The JV and varsity teams attended a shootout at Olentangy High School in Lewis Center on June 4 where they were competitive, but only tallied one victory in a varsity game against Carey High School. The teams in attendance at the shootout were mostly DI and DII schools, including Olentangy, Marion Harding, Grove City, and Licking Valley.
Two weeks later, the teams traveled to the University of Pittsburgh for the Kevin Stallings Basketball Camp. The varsity and JV squads each played seven games against larger teams from Ohio, including Upper Arlington and Dublin Jerome, and Pennsylvania. The Crestline teams only achieved one victory each, but continued to remain competitive in each game.

While at the camp the teams attended daily skills sessions conducted by members of the Pittsburgh coaching staff.
“At the times the overall attendance of the sessions was very small, which made it even more impactful for our players as they garnered most of the coaches’ focus,” explained assistant coach Zach Massa.
It was at the Lake High School Shootout in Millbury, Ohio, on June 24, however, where the Bulldogs finally found their groove. They competed against mostly DIII teams from Lake, Hopewell Loudon, Genoa, Otsego, Leipsic, Northwood, and others. Though the day started off rocky with losses in the first two games, it quickly turned around as the team won the final four games, including the last game of pool play and the three tournament games. The Bulldogs went away champions of the overall shootout single elimination tournament.
