The Buckeye Central Buckettes survived a late Wynford rally last night and held on to defeat the Lady Royals 57-52 in N10 play.

Wynford at Buckeye Central (4)Leading by 11 heading into the final period, the Buckettes saw Wynford cut the lead to 2 before Emma Studer hit two free throws in the final seconds to stretch the lead to four.

Buckeye Central Coach Greg Moore explained the keys to the Buckettes’ victory.

“I thought we had great contribution with everyone that played,” Moore said. “I think the key was transition we got up and down the court real well, and small things like that. We got more than two people, a lot of people try to box us in but we have three kids that can play the game a little bit and our kids got out and did what they needed to do.”

Wynford’s Jade Stuckman led all scorers with 24 points including 6 threes as the Lady Royals fall to 4-6 on the season and 3-4 in N10 play.

Sarah Ogden had 14 and Gretchen Harris added 10 for Wynford.

Wynford at Buckeye Central (13)Buckeye Central’s Isabelle Biglin led three Buckettes in double figures with 16, Haley Green had 14 and Jenna Karl 10 as Buckeye Central improved to 5-3 on the year and 5-2 in the league.

Looking towards their next game against Mohawk Moore noted a few weaknesses that the Buckettes need to address.

“We have to take care of the ball handling better we can’t turn the ball over twice down there under the basket, but we persevered and got to them and I am proud of them for,” Moore said. “I’m not happy with the rebounding we gave up too many second shots, we got to do a better job than that. Amy’s kids just played hard. They never quit, they never stopped. It’s a credit to her. It’s a great program it is a reason why they are who they are, and it will be a battle the next time, but we got to worry about Mohawk now.”

Buckeye Central won the JV game 47-32. Elizabeth Heydinger led Buckeye Central with 15, Haley McCoy had 11 to pace Wynford.
