Going into Friday night’s tournament games four teams from Crawford County were vying for a shot at the districts. When the final buzzard sounded on all four games only Colonel Crawford and Buckeye Central remained.
Led by Todd Entenmann’s 17 points the Colonel Crawford Eagles advanced to the districts by downing the Margaretta Bears 44-32 in the Division III Shelby sectional finals Friday night.
After finding themselves trailing 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Colonel Crawford defense held Margaretta to two points in the second to go into the half knotted up at 16. The Eagles continued the pressure in the second half outscoring the Bears 10-6 in the third and 18-10 in the fourth.
With the victory Colonel Crawford advances to district play at Ashland University where they will play the winner of the game between Edison and Willard at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
After finding themselves down 10-6 at the end of the first period the Buckeye Central Bucks outscored South Central Trojans over the final three stanzas to win 53-46.
Buckeye Central’s Grant Loy had a double-double scoring 17 points and snagging 10 rebounds while teammate Austin Wurm scored 14 points in the game.
South Central was led by Dallas Yost who scored 22 points. Brayden Wilhelm added 12 points to the Trojans cause.
Buckeye Central will face St. Mary’s Central Catholic in the Division IV Willard district semifinals at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Allowing four players to score double digits on them, the Bucyrus Redmen found themselves out of the tournaments Friday night losing to the Eastwood Eagles 58-36.
Dalon King led the Redmen with 12 points as the Bucyrus team tried to make it to the districts for the first time since the OHSAA revamped the tournament well over 50 years ago. Austin Williams added 10 points as the Redmen finish the season with a 12-12 record.
Eastwood was led by Cory Coffman’s 15 points. Zach Jacoby and Jason Fertig contributed 12 points, and Noah Smith contributed 11 points.
The Galion Tigers season came to an end in Willard Friday night at the hands of the Sandusky Blue Streaks 83-65.
Led behind Jordan Valentine’s 20 points the Tigers found themselves down 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. Sandusky stretched the lead by 10 entering the half with a 32-28 lead. Coy Vantilburg added 18 points to Galion’s cause.
The Blue Streaks were led by George Brown, who scored 27 points in the game, and Jayrese Williams added 13 points.
Galion finishes their season with a 10-14 record.
