Bucyrus pulls away from Crestline

CRESTLINE — Bucyrus built a 27-18 halftime lead and the defense pitched a shutout in the second half to allow the Redmen to pull away to a 46-18 victory over Crestline in a non-league season finale.

Bucyrus (2-8) used a newfound running game to secure the win. After the Redmen used their season-long modus operandi by scoring three of their four first-half touchdowns through the air, they scored three TDs in the second half, all on the ground.

Devon Newland finished with 132 yards rushing on 17 attempts, good for two scores. The sophomore punched it in from two yards out for the only rushing touchdown in the first half. Newland capped off the night’s scoring with a 53-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Crestline (5-5) made the game interesting in the first half, getting a pair of touchdowns from Caleb Moore. The first came on a 62-yard run in the first quarter. The second was a 45-yard return of a fumble which, at the time, drew the Bulldogs to within 20-12.

The other Crestline score came on a 38-yard pass from Ty Clark to Davon Triplett. Clark finished the night completing eight of 17 passes with two interceptions. Moore rushed for 89 yards on nine tries.

Ben Seibert had scoring passes of 67 and 15 yards to Gram Dick and 57 yards to Harley Robinson. Seibert finished with 169 yards passing, completing five of just 10 passes. Dick caught three for 104 yards. The Redmen outgained the Bulldogs 450-262.

Colonel Crawford finishes season strong

UPPER SANDUSKY — Colonel Crawford (5-5, 3-4 N10) finished the season with a 34-14 win at Upper Sandusky (3-7, 2-5).

Trevor Shawber — the leading rusher in the N10 — ran for 160 yards on 30 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Hayden Bute completed nine of 19 passes for 206 yards, including a scoring pass to Kaleb Landin, who had four receptions for 104 yards. Bute also rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles’ defense held the Rams to 190 yards of total offense, 176 of it on the ground. All the scoring came in the first half.

Seneca East secures home playoff game

ATTICA — Seneca East blew open a close game at halftime with 31 second-half points to defeat Carey, 42-13, in an N10 game. The win secured the Tigers a home game when the playoffs start next week.

The only points for Seneca East (8-1, 6-1) in the first half came on a 2-yard by Chase Foos and a 23-yard field goal by Tyler Turek. The Blue Devils’ lone score of the half came on a 1-yard run by Brayden Wentling, giving the Tigers an 11-6 advantage at intermission.

But the second half was all Seneca East. D.J. Ruffing returned the opening kickoff of the second half 85 yards for a touchdown and just over two minutes later, Foos connected with Bo Smith on a 69-yard scoring pass and the rout was on.

Brock Martin scored on runs of 25 and 5 yards and Elijah Riggs added an 8-yard run as the Tigers scored 31 unanswered points. Carey (7-3, 4-3) got its only points of the second half on an 85-yard return of a kickoff with 4:09 left in the game.

Amazingly, the Tigers put 42 on the board with only 228 yards of total offense. Martin accounted for 117 yards on the ground on 22 carries. Foos completed four of six passes for 101 yards. Smith had three catches for 102.

Wentling led the Blue Devils with 39 yards rushing on 15 carries. Carey made the playoffs despite the loss and, pending some Saturday game results, could play at Wynford in Week 11.

Seneca East will host and would entertain Hillsdale as of now.

Wynford sweeps N10 with win at Buckeye Central

Wynford kept its amazing record intact, going unbeaten in the N10 for the fourth straight year, thanks to a 29-8 victory at Buckeye Central. The Bucks end the year at 0-10, 0-7.

Besides clinching the outright N10 title, the Royals will play at home to start the playoffs, possibly hosting league foe Carey, depending on the outcome of some Saturday games.
