Bucyrus finishes second in Crestline Invite
CRESTLINE — Bucyrus finished second in the eight-team Crestline Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Redmen started the day with a 2-0 win over Jones Leadership, 25-11, 25-7. Jody Whitmore had five aces and eight kills and Alexis Schifer had five aces and three kills to lead Bucyrus.
In the second match, the Redmen downed Temple Christian, 25-12, 25-19. Whitmore had 10 aces, three kills and five digs, while Sydney McAdams was 100 percent serving with two aces, one kill and eight assists.
Bucyrus fell to Oregon Cardinal Stritch in the championship game, 18-25, 13-25. Schifer had four kills and four digs, Whitmore had 13 digs and three kills and Kristen Vaughn was 11 for 11 serving with three aces, two kills and four digs.
Upper Sandusky 3, Sandusky 0
SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky blanked Sandusky in a girls’ soccer match on Saturday.
Taylor Norris had two goals to lead the Lady Rams, one in the first half and one in the second half, both on assists by Alivia Oney.
The defense for Upper Sandusky (3-3) held Sandusky (1-3-1) to no shots on goal.
Willard, Buckeye Valley win Elks Invitational
BUCYRUS — Willard boys and Buckeye Valley girls won the Elks Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Willard edged second-place Olmstead Falls, 62-71. Northmor was third with 124. Upper Sandusky (163) was fifth, Wynford (226) was eighth, Bucyrus (268) was 11th, Colonel Crawford (291) was 12th, Mohawk (404) was 14th and Buckeye Central (443) was 16th out of 18 teams.
Jacob Poling of Elgin finished first overall with a time of 16:56.86. Dakota Hedrick of Bucyrus was 28th at 18:38.51, Wynford’s Noah Smith was 30th with a time of 18:42.10 and Braxton James of Colonel Crawford came in 34th at 18:52.76 in the field of 253 runners.
Buckeye Valley won comfortably over Olmstead Falls, 25-91, in the girls’ race. Upper Sandusky (155) was fourth, Colonel Crawford (160) finished fifth, Northmor (165) was sixth, Mohawk (228) was ninth, Wynford (250) was tenth and Buckeye Central (252) came in 11th of 12 teams that posted scores.
The Barons’ Chloe Dawson was the individual winner with a time of 20:01.01. Ally Hocker of Colonel Crawford was 15th at 21:59.27 and Allison Lust of Wynford finished 29th out of 161 runners.
