Wynford overhauls Colonel Crawford

HOLMES TOWNSHIP — Wynford overcame a 16-14 halftime deficit to defeat visiting Colonel Crawford, 44-36, in a key Northern 10 Conference game.

The Royals still trailed, 23-22, after three quarters but Wynford (3-1, 2-0 N10) put 22 points on the board in the final period, then held on for the win.

Quarterback Wyatt Smith rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown and threw for 220 yard and three scores. Smith completed 14 of 27 passes. Robbie Miller caught four balls for 85 yards, including a 42-yard catch-and-run that gave the Royals a 30-23 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Shawber led Colonel Crawford (1-3, 0-3) by rushing for 212 yards on 27 carries, good for three touchdowns. Shawber had scoring runs of 68, 22 and one yards.

Hayden Bute completed nine of 19 passes for 115 yards and a pair of scores, as the Eagles accumulated 385 yards of total offense. Owin Seevers was Bute’s favorite target, hauling in four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Carey remains unbeaten

BUCYRUS — The Redmen scored their first points of the year against state-ranked Carey, but lost their fourth in a row to start the season, 48-13, in an N10 contest.

Bucyrus (0-4, 0-2) scored its first touchdown of the year on a 31-yard pass from Ben Seibert to Gram Dick. The Redmen got a defensive score in the second quarter when Keaton Naufzinger scooped up a Blue Devils’ fumble and ran in from 46 yards to pull within 21-13.

After a Carey (4-0, 3-0) scored to make it 28-13, the Redmen had a chance to cut the deficit to one score going into halftime. But the Blue Devils’ Austen Hertel intercepted a pass at the five and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown to give Carey a 34-13 lead at intermission.

Big plays were the order of the night for Carey. Quarterback Brayden Wentling rushed for 171 yards on just seven carries, including two scoring runs of 65 yards and one for 18. Wentling connected on four of eight passes for 80 yards.

Adam Hackworth had a 68-yard TD run and Willie Schafer took one in from 54 yards. The Blue Devils had 379 yards rushing and 459 yards of total offense.

Seibert was eight of 17 passing for 159 yards and one score. Dick caught seven for 126 yards and a touchdown. The Redmen had 234 yards of total offense.

Crestline eases past Buckeye Central

NEW WASHINGTON — Crestline scored two touchdowns in the last 30 seconds of the first half to gain a 13-12 lead at intermission, then pulled away to a 33-18 non-league victory over Buckeye Central.

Quarterback Ty Clark hooked up with Davon Triplett on scoring strikes of 36 and 43 yards in a 22 second span to grab the halftime lead.

Caleb Moore then returned the opening kickoff of the second half 75 yards for a touchdown for the Bulldogs.

Wade Ackerman caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Brady Kerschner to get Buckeye Central (0-4) within 19-18.

But Moore had scoring runs of four and 27 yards to seal the win for Crestline (2-2).

Clark completed 15 of 24 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Triplett caught five for 144 yards. Dakota Wireman rushed 19 times for 64 yards.

Kerschner was good on 10 of 24 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Max Loy caught four passes for 104 yards. Avery Baldosser ran 11 times for 47 yards.
