BUCYRUS — Non-conference play continues with Week 2 of the high school football season, and though most of the Fanatics agreed on every game, there were a few lone-wolf picks made with the fans going against the tide as well.

The largest separation of picks game with the Colonel Crawford at North Union game. The in-house play-by-play analysts must think they know something by being out at the games each week, as WQEL analyst Josh Stallings and WBCO analyst Jared Moore both picked the Eagles to defeat North Union and the fans agreed that Colonel Crawford will improve to 2-0.
Thanks to the fan picks, three games went from having a single vote stray from the pack to that Fanatic having a friend in their selections.
WBCO color commentator Tim Birie was the lone pick for Cardington-Lincoln to put Bucyrus to 0-2 until the fan pick joined him in the thought. The fans also joined Friday Night Phoneboard host Davey Jones in picking Crestline to make the drive home from Fisher Catholic as the victors and with a pick that Vanlue will defend home field against Ridgedale.
The fans did stick with the group on two occasions, however.
News director James Massara was the only Fanatic to pick Tiffin Calvert, a media favorite to win the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division, to ruin Wynford’s home opener, while the fans and the other seven Fanatics all sided with the Royals to improve to 1-1.
As Seneca East squares off with another SBC Bay Division foe after defeating Margaretta in Week 1, sports director Dan Messerschmidt and Josh Stallings were the only two to think the media’s Northern 10 Conference favorite will fall to Milan Edison.
There were four games the Fanatics and the fans did agree on, unanimously.
The Fanatics agreed the Buckeye Central winless streak will continue with a matchup against Dalton and were unanimous in the belief that Galion will go 2-0 against the N10 with a win against Carey.
Everyone agreed that Mohawk will move to 2-0 with a win against former-Midland Athletic League opponent Hopewell-Loudon. Upper Sandusky also was a unanimous choice to win and improve to 1-1 on the season.
The Burkhart Farm Center WQEL Game of the Week broadcast is Tiffin Calvert at Wynford on Iconic Rock Q92.7 and the McDonald’s of Bucyrus and Galion WBCO Game of the Week is Bucyrus at Cardington on Country Legends 1540AM/107.5FM.
Most of the Fanatics did fairly well during Week 1, with no one digging too deep of a hole, but Messerschmidt may want to rethink his strategy as too many 4-loss weeks can put him out of the running quickly. Birie was nearly perfect, just missing one pick as Buckeye Central fell to Crestline in Week 1.
