William J. ”Bill” Zimmerman, 87, of Galion passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Avita Galion Hospital.

 

Born March 24, 1933 in Crawford County, he was the son of Orlando Melvin “Ora” and Ruth Etta (Bender) Zimmerman. He married Mary Louise (Shifley) Zimmerman on April 5, 1953 and she survives.

 

He was a graduate of Whetstone High School in 1951 and served during the Korean conflict with United States Air Force. Bill was a sales engineer at the North Electric Company in Galion for 29 ½ years then worked in maintenance at the Galion Community Center YMCA for over ten years and at Ohio Head Start for over five years. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Galion and a member of American Legion Post 243and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life where he was a Team Captain. Bill enjoyed woodworking, camping and blacksmithing

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Aaron E.(Frances) Zimmerman of Bucyrus; grandsons Grant Zimmerman of Columbus and Jeff (Kendra) Fisher of Bucyrus and great-grandchildren Aiden and Elliott Fisher,

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandson Brian Fisher; brother and sister-in-law, James and Miriam Zimmerman and a twin brother at birth.

 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Darrin Harvey officiating.

 

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

 

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to American Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
