Wanda M. Garverick, 65, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Galion Community Hospital’s ER.
She was born in Port Clinton on July 19, 1956, to the late Lawrence and Betty (Brophy) Farley. Wanda was raised in Monroeville and, after graduating high school, moved with family to Florida before returning to Ohio and settling in Bucyrus. She married the love of her life, Scott Garverick, on October 5, 2006, and was devastated by his death on June 2, 2016.
Wanda was hard working and compassionate. Many will remember her best from her years at Al Smith’s Place where her warm smile and welcoming spirit served many customers who quickly became friends. She was very smart and had a wonderful way with children She loved reading and working with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, campfires, watching hockey, baseball, and true crime stories on TV, and shopping for bargains at garage sales and auctions. Wanda made every effort to see that everyone was happy, even if it meant setting aside her own preferences.
Wanda is survived by children, Dolly (Jeremy) Downing and Jeff (Shawna) Green; grandchildren, Kelsey, Austin, and Dylan Downing, Emma Green, and Dakota (Shelby) Rapp; great-grandchildren, Brennan, Harlan, Brantley, Braiden, Arayah, and one expected; four stepdaughters and their families, Ashley (Jason) Roe, Jessica, Mackenzie, and Madison Garverick; sister, Vickey Farley; and brothers, Larry (Rose) Farley and Kim (Ellen) Farley.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by sisters, Mary, Linda, and Cheryl Farley.
Services for Wanda will take place at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Wednesday, November 17. Family will receive friends from 10-11:55 am and her funeral will begin at 12 Noon with Pastor Joe Stafford officiating. She will be laid to rest in Whetstone Cemetery.
