Walter E. Turney Jr. age 96 of Upper Sandusky, died at Fairhaven Health Care Community on Sept. 26, 2022. He was born Nov. 11, 1925 in Harpster to the late Walter and Frances (Smith) Turney Sr. In 1950 he married Martha Austin, she preceded him in death in 1979. Surviving is a son Keith (Cheryl Sims) Turney, Upper Sandusky, daughter Michelle (Joe) Holtschulte, IL, grandchildren Erica & Brice Turney, Angela Jones and Justin Rall, Jordan, Alex and Nick Holtschulte, 16 great grandchildren, a sister Helen Smalley, Upper Sandusky, He is preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law Christine and Joseph Rall, a brother Robert Turney, sisters Shirley McClain and Louise Walters and special companion Mary Gregory.

Mr. Turney was a 1943 graduate of Harpster High School. He served as a veteran in the United States Navy during WW II.  Mr. Turney was a farmer and carpenter, owning and operating Turney Construction. He later worked at the former Karg Supply before retiring.

He was a member of Harpster United Methodist Church where he had served as a former Sunday School teacher. Mr. Turney had been a former councilman, clerk, treasurer and mayor of Harpster.  He was a volunteer fireman serving on the Pitt Twp. Fire Department, and was the departments treasurer. He enjoyed softball, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, and early in his life hunting and traveling.

Funeral services will be held Thurs. Sept. 29, 2022 at 12:00PM at Bringman Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Kendrick officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM-12:00PM before time of services at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to Harpster United Methodist Church or ProMedica Hospice in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home 226 E.
