Virginia Lee “Ginger” Jones, 88, of Galion passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at Avita Galion Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1934 in Bucyrus and was the daughter of Violet W. (Couts) La Pointe and Rowley LaPointe. Ginger married James “Jim” Jones on August 9, 1952 and he preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage on March 30, 2015.
Ginger graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1952 and attended Grace Point in Galion. She was a telephone operator for Northern Ohio in Bucyrus and Galion Telephone Company. Ginger was also a Welcome Wagon Hostess in Galion. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics and loved fishing and camping at her second home, Lake Erie.
From 1994 to 2001 she participated in the Muticenter InSync Clinical Evaluation (Miracle) trial and Transvenous left Ventricular Cardiac Vein Lead Study for Bi-ventricular Stimulation in Heart failure at the Cleveland Clinic. The study was used to determine the safety and effectiveness of the cardiac resynchronization therapy for reducing symptoms associated with moderate to severe heart failure. The study played an important role in the FDA approving it for market release and it lead the way for new developments in heart failure management. She was the fifth person in Ohio to receive a new pacemaker design.
She is survived by two daughters, Kristi Keesee and Lynne (Bill) Keesey all of Galion; five grandchildren, Kendra Keesee, Kent (Lyndsey) Keesee, Clay Keesey, Taylor (Kyle) Kelso and Issac Stepp; three great-grandchildren, Colt Keesee, Oaklynne Kelso and Hudson Kelso; sister Judith Crowell of Fremont, Ohio and a her faithful companion, Shotzie her German Shepherd .
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tami Stepp; a son-in-law, Ken Keesee and two sisters, Jacqueline Boyer and Angeline Natole.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Grace Point, 683 Portland Way North, Galion, Ohio 44833 where a funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m., with Rev. Paul Walter officiating.
