Tom Mansperger, 60, of Ashland passed away July 30, 2021 unexpectedly at home.
Born May 21, 1961 in Galion, he was the son of the late Harmon A. “Sonny” and Carole (Powers) Mansperger, Jr.
He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1979, received his undergrad from Ohio Northern University and his Master of Business Administration from Ashland University. Tom was a member, Past Exalted Ruler, and current trustee at the Ashland Elks Lodge #1360. He was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at Ohio Northern. He was a member and co-captain of the Galion Tigers 1978 undefeated NOL Champion football team and continued playing through college at Ohio Northern University.
He dedicated 37 years of his life working in higher education admissions. The majority of that time was spent as a Director of Admissions and Dean of Students. He was also a member of Association of College Admission Counseling.
Tom spent many hours volunteering at the Ashland Elks. Along with his previously named titles, he was a faithful member of the Mid-Ohio Bourbon Boys. During his many hours of volunteering, you could hear his infectious laughter as he enjoyed being surrounded by close friends. He was known for his delicious pasta salad, as it was a crowd favorite at many Elks’ events. Everyone who met him, even for the briefest of moments could feel his warmth, sincerity, and kindness.
He is survived by two daughters, Marissa (Nic Roland) Mansperger of Ashland and Mariah Mansperger of Davenport, Iowa; brother, Mike (Kathy) Mansperger of Galion; former wife and mother of his children, Deana Bowman Mansperger of Ashland; uncle, Thomas Elsworth (Barbara) Mansperger of Springboro, Ohio; nephews, Nathan (Paige) Mansperger, Ryan (Heather Shifley) Dinkel and Jason Mansperger; niece, Grace (James) O’Brien and special friend and “partner in crime”, Gayle Whirl-Lantz of Ashland. Tom also adored his grand-dogs, Annie, Vito, Bodhi, Jackson, Bailey Jo, and Harper Mae.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Mansperger; brother, Timothy Mansperger; and his faithful canine companion, Louis.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A celebration of life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Ashland Elks Lodge #1360, 402 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805. All are welcome.
