Thomas A. Cowen, 68, of Galion, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Centerburg Pointe.

Born December 12, 1952, in Columbus, he was the son of Robert T. and Thelma (Redman) Cowen. He married Linda (Pfleiderer) Cowen on July 6, 1984, and she preceded him on June 3, 2019.

He was a graduate of Northmor High School in 1972 and served in the United States Army. Tom worked at United Church Directories, retiring after 30 years. He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 87, a former member of the Army-Navy Garrison and VFW 4329. Tom was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and NASCAR. He enjoyed listening to music and especially liked buying gifts for his grandchildren.

He is survived by son John (Leslie) Cowen of Centerburg; stepchildren Michael Johnson of Marion and Kelly (Robert) Maschmeier of Carlisle; grandchildren Gabriel, Avery, and Beckett Cowen, Brittany Ballard,  Kaylee Johnson, Ambria (Timothy) Small-Betz, Trevor, Anthony and Alexis Small and Henry Maschmeier, and great-grandchildren Isaac Small and Aiden Webb. Tom was blessed to have a tight group of friends that had an indescribable bond. The family greatly appreciates their true friendship.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother Timothy Cowen.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Iberia Cemetery with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

At 5:30 Friday, October 1st, family and friends are welcome to come together to celebrate Tom’s life at the AMVETS Post 87 for a potluck style celebration
