
Shirley L. Sickmiller, 84, of Galion passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion, after declining health the last four months.
She was born January 6, 1934 in Darby, Ohio and was the daughter of William Bruce and Mabel G. (Hinklin) Iles. On February 8, 1951 she married William Roy Sickmiller and they were married 43 years until his passing on November 7, 1994.
She was a graduate of Mansfield Mid-Ohio Licensed Practical Nursing Program in 1971 and worked as a surgical nurse at Galion Hospital, retiring in 1996. Shirley was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Galion, where she was active in Christian missions and a member of Naomi Chapter 47 Order of the Eastern Star and Galion Women of the Moose. Shirley volunteered for the Galion Red Cross Disaster Team, LifeLine Christian Missions to Haiti and in her retirement, she volunteered at the Galion Hospital. She went on mission trips to Haiti and the Philippines.
She is survived by children William (Debbie) of Ashland, Edward (Carol) of Mt. Gilead and Nancy Price of Crestline; grandchildren Bryan Sickmiller, Matt (Anneliese) Sickmiller, Jenna (Lance) Plough, Drew (Ashley) Sickmiller, Jordan Badger, Ami (Chris) Frazier, Stephanie (Joe) Galford and Spencer (Sarah) Badger; 12 great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law Bernice Iles of Mansfield and Mary Anne Iles of Galion.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded by daughter Patricia Sickmiller; brothers Elton, Don and Bruce Iles and sister Mary Pappas.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 130 East Walnut St., Galion, Ohio 44833, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Randas officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to HomeCare Matters Hospice or Missions Fund at Christ United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
