Sandra M. Sparks, 75, of Galion passed away Monday morning, May 28, 2018 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 21, 1942 in Galion and was the daughter of Charles H. and Roma L. (Baker) Caldwell. On August 17, 1963 she married Kenneth M. “Sparky” Sparks and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage until his passing on May 12, 2006.

Sandra was a 1960 graduate of Galion High School and worked 32 years as a clerk in the utility office for the City of Galion, retiring in 2002. She was currently a member of the Galion Golden Age Center where she was a trustee and board member. Sandra was also a member of the VFW Post 4329 Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 Ladies Auxiliary and was a former board member of Galion Community Action. She volunteered for the Galion Chapter of the American Red Cross and as a poll worker for the Crawford County Board of Elections.

Sandra loved gardening, flowers, painting, crafting, playing cards and traveling, especially to Aruba.

She is survived by son Michael (Shelly) Sparks of Mansfield; daughters Stacey (Fred) Russell of Galion and Rachel (Jeff) Hinton of Mt. Gilead; three grandchildren Matthew (Ashley) Hinton, Josh Hinton and Mackenzie (Azariah Kindler) Sparks; brother Charles (Angie) Caldwell of Galion; brother-in-law Paul “Pook” Wildenthaler of Galion and a close friend Jack Barler of Galion.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Kaye Wildenthaler.

Following her wishes, there will be no formal service held.
