Sandra F. Hemmerly age 77 of Upper Sandusky, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday September 22, 2022 at her residence.  She was born on September 5, 1945 in Bucyrus to Wilbur G. & Sarah Frances (Roberts) Zimmerman.  Sandy married Ted Lopez and they later divorced. She then married Franklin Hemmerly on August 2, 1985 in St. Paul Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2012.  Sandy is also preceded in death by her parents, and son, Timothy Lopez.

Sandy loved being a grandma to her grandchildren: Abigail (Pavlos) Kanellakis of Bucyrus and Larena Lopez of Upper Sandusky and great grandma to her great grandchildren: Giselle Kanellakis, Sofia Kanellakis and Ella Anez.  Sandy is also survived by her sister, Marcia (Jed) Geary of Upper Sandusky, brother Marshall “Sonny” (Joyce) Zimmerman of Marengo, step children Robert (Jennifer) Hemmerly, Springfield, David (Camella) Hemmerly, Kenton, Timothy (Dawn) Hemmerly, Forest, Christine (Roger) Wagner, Bluffton. Sandy and her fiance, Jim Gottfried enjoyed each other’s companionship for the past six years.

Sandy graduated from Upper Sandusky in 1963.  She retired in 2006 from Westinghouse/AO Smith.  Sandy was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, belonged to the Women of the Church and the sewing circle making many quilts. She followed in her mother’s footstep, she could be seen ringing the Salvation Army bell during the Christmas season. Sandy was past president of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild. She was a board member of the Wyandot CARES and had been a volunteer for the past 10 years. Sandy was a cub scout den mother for five years for pack #225.  She was a member of the AmVets # 777, Moose Lodge #1093, and American Legion auxiliary.  Sandy was very artistic and creative.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and painting.  Sandy also loved the outdoors and you would find her gardening and fishing with her late husband Frank.  Sandy rode bikes and was an avid reader.  She was fond of her Elvis Presley memorabilia and Fenton Glass collectibles.  The past six years she enjoyed going on bus trips with Jim through the Wyandot County Council on Aging.

A funeral service will be held on Monday September 26, 2022 at 10:30am in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Barry Halter officiating.  Burial will follow at Jackson Center Cemetery, Wyandot County.  Visitation will be on Sunday September 25, 2022 from 1pm-4pm at Bringman Clark Funeral Home and from 9:30am til time of service on Monday. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
