Ronald E. Barnes, 76, of Galion passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Avita Hospital in Galion.

Born April 9, 1942 in Dennison, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert E. Barnes and Evelyn (Miller) Barnes who survives in Dennison, Ohio.  He married Sharon (Mathison) Barnes on September 19, 1964 and she survives in Galion.

Ron received a degree from the DeVry Technical College in Chicago and served in the United States Army. He worked as a metrologist engineer for 22 years at the former ITT, North Electric and PECO in Galion and then worked and retired as a custodian for the Galion City Schools after 17 years. He has been the custodian at Christ United Methodist Church in Galion since retiring from the Galion Schools.

Ron is a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Galion where he operated the sound system for them in the past.  He is a former Galion Lions Club Member and enjoyed trains.  He could be seen all around the area running sound systems and lights for all kind of events, like festivals, including the Bratwurst Festival in Bucyrus, Memorial Day Celebration in Bucyrus, air shows, cross country meets, car shows, Galion music in the park, Galion Schools Mock Crash and has handled sound and lights for over 60 proms even while he was still in high school. He enjoyed watching people while at all the events, had a loving and kind heart and was especially proud of his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Richard “Rick” Barnes of Galion, Rhonda Barnes-Montey of Mansfield, Sherry (Howard) McKinney of Galion and Scott Barnes of Ontario; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Ricky, Nikki, Robin, Brittany, Joey, Bethany, Vince, Makensie, Drew and Carson; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Johanna, Declan, Zavier and Matthew.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 130 East Walnut Street, Galion, Ohio  44833 where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Rev. Matthew Weaver officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
