Roger Duane Hedges, 68, of Bucyrus passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
Roger was born on November 11, 1952, to the late Vernon and Audrey (Papenfus) Hedges. He married Kay (Patterson) Hedges on November 17, 1973.
Roger graduated from Northmor High School in 1971. He was an active youth umpire for many years. Roger umpired little league baseball for over forty years, USA/ASA softball for thirteen years as well as an OHSAA official for basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball. As an umpire, he had the honor of officiating the USSSA World Series in 2007 in Florida, USSSA World Series in 2009 with his son Patrick, the National Softball Tournament in 2017 with his son Patrick and a close friend, Terry Winch, and the World Series in Joplin, Missouri. After Roger could no longer officiate games, he volunteered at the Bucyrus Middle School basketball games as a ticket collector. He was also involved in catering at the Columbus Zoo. With his wife, Roger was a member of Country Crossroads Cloggers and they had the opportunity to dance with a group at Disney World in Orlando. Roger was also a member of the Galion and Bucyrus Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his children; Patrick (Lou) Hedges of Bucyrus, Suzanne Hedges of Bucyrus and Bryan (Lisa) Hedges of Bucyrus; his nine grandchildren; Darrien (Katie) Hedges, Mykaela Hedges, Chase (Genesis) Bowman, Donavan (Ever) Hedges, Corben Hedges, Evan Hedges, Robbie Ellis, Cylus Hedges, Austin (Peyton) Dorsey, and Brandon Dorsey; his two great-grandchildren; Carter Bowman and Kwa’Vonte Hedges; his brothers; Ron (Cheri) Hedges of Galion, Bill (Julie) Hedges of Piney Flats, Tennessee and Chuck Hedges of Galion.
In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law; Maurice and Flossy Mae Patterson, and his sister-in-law, Betty Hedges.
