Robert Lee Ervin, age 87, of Galion, OH, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. On June 24, 2024 Bob joined the love of his life, Shirley, in his heavenly home.
Robert was the son of the late John and Mildred (James) Ervin. He was born in Los Angeles, California on December 21, 1936 and returned to Blooming Grove, OH at the early age of one. Bob was raised in Bucyrus and attended school in North Robinson. While still in high school, he met Shirley (Eusey) Ervin and the pair would be together for 67 amazing years.
Robert and Shirley were joined in marriage on December 11, 1955 and soon after built their home together near Galion where they raised three children and lived inseparable for 61 years. Together they attended St. Paul Lutheran Church where they remained active. Over the years Bob served on church council, taught Sunday school, and also sang in the choir, which he enjoyed. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa, and went to great efforts to make sure his family knew how much they were loved. His family was his pride and joy and a priority. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment that will inspire the lives of his loved ones.
Bob simply loved life and was always ready for an adventure. He was quick with a joke and had a contagious laugh. Some of his passions and hobbies included: woodworking, motorcycles, camping, card games, square dancing (with homemade outfits) and just about anything that included his kids. He loved sports, including his beloved Cleveland teams and OSU, and enjoying anything that had to do with water. Time spent at Kelly’s Island, boating at Candlewood Lake where they had a summer home for 15 years, or getting to go on many cruises in retirement years, would all be included as some of his favorite memories.
Bob leaves his family and friends with many wonderful memories. One of the family’s favorite memories would be going to Amish Country for a weekend every year. This is how the family celebrated Christmas for 21 years and was anticipated by all. Bob and Shirley made a point to all that celebrating Jesus and being with each other was truly a blessing and very important to them. They were a true definition of love.
His contagious smile. His kindness and service to others. His faith and his great love for his wife, family and friends will be remembered by all generations.
Robert is survived by his three children: Timothy (Sue) Ervin, Tami (Michael) Haught, and Rob (Kerry) Ervin. By 11 grandchildren: Matthew Parrott, Mindy (Charles) Farley, Rebecca (Scott) Armrose, Jessica (Michael) Remy, Megan (Ryan) Lawson, Jennifer (Eric) Barett, Tyler (Stephanie Graham) Haught, Diana Haught (Jeff Crockett), Chad (Jaclynn) Ervin, Larissa Chanell, Rachal Ervin. By 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson due July 24. He is also survived by his aunt, Glada Stuckert.
