Rob Miller was a master of many.
A licensed private pilot, a talented woodworker, a wonderful storyteller, an excellent cook, a master fisherman, and an accomplished skipper on the waters of the Great Lakes.
Robert E. “Rob” Miller, 73, of Galion passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, after a several-month illness, surrounded by his family.
Rob was born Feb. 8, 1950, in Marion, Ohio, to Gaylord F. Miller, Sr. and Mildred (Blair) Miller. He graduated from North Union High School in Richwood, Ohio, and served proudly in the U.S. Army as sergeant in Germany for two years.
Rob was known for working hard and playing hard. He spent his entire career at the U.S. Postal Service, first a rural mail carrier in Galion and later as supervisor of mail processing for the U.S. Post Office in Mansfield, Ohio. He retired in April 2010.
Rob married the love of his life and his best friend, Rebecca L. Price Miller, on March 14, 1970. For the next 53 years, they were inseparable – building a life together, raising two sons, working on home projects, and traveling with their family.
Family time at the Millers usually centered around the dining room table where they gathered to enjoy Rob’s homemade pizza, chicken and noodles, and – during the summer months – fresh vegetables from his backyard garden. Cookie press cookies were also his specialty.
Usually donning a pair of colorful Crocs shoes, “Gator Rob” was an all-around handyman around the house with a flair for anything mechanical. He was also a model airplane enthusiast and a former member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Rob and Becky attended St. Paul United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Rob is survived by sons Nathan Miller of Hebron, Ohio, and sweetheart Kimberly Ryland and daughters Sydney and Olivia, and Kyle “Ky” (Haylie) Miller of Bellevue, Ohio, and grandchildren Gavin, Finley, and Adeline, who affectionately called him “Papi;” three brothers, Gaylord F. “Rick” (Norene) Miller, Jr. of Sulphur Springs, Randie (Robin) Miller of Richwood, and Guy Miller of Marblehead; a sister-in-law, Rose Mary (Bill) Bales of Moscow, Tenn.; and two brothers-in-law, Stephen (Linda) Price of LaRue and Mark (Brenda) Price of Richwood; plus nieces and nephews.
The Miller family will receive friends on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. lead by Ky Miller, followed by military honors conducted by Galion/Crestline Military Veterans Funeral Detail. Graveside services for the family will be in LaRue Cemetery in LaRue, Ohio, with military honors by the U.S. Army.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Avita Health Foundation in care of Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel.
