Robert “Buck” C. Monnett II, 82, passed away on September 17, 2024, in Galion, OH. Born on June 14, 1942 in Ashland, OH, Buck dedicated his life to his family, his community, and a Sales career that spanned several reputable companies.

Buck graduated from Galion High School and furthered his education at Ohio University playing football for the 1957 & 58 NOL Champion Galion Tigers and with the Sun Bowl bound OU Bobcats. He served honorably in the National Guard. Professionally, Buck was a respected sales representative, working primarily in the steel industry.

A devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Galion, Buck converted to Catholicism and was deeply involved in his faith. His love for the outdoors was evident through his hobbies which included golf, hunting, and playing backyard football. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events and always cheered on the Green Bay Packers. Annual trips to Pawley’s Island, SC have always been a great family vacation for the extended family and continued when he played on the beach with the grandkids. Later in life he enjoyed traveling the world with his loving wife, Ann. His dedication to community service was demonstrated through his active involvement in the Galion Booster Club, Pickle Run Festival and the merger of the Galion YMCA and Community Center.

Buck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann (Yochem) Monnett; children, Rob (Kim), Amy (Marc Borel), and Brad (Andrea); brother, Bill (Diane); sister, Mary Ann (Jerry Nicholls); and grandchildren, Zeke & Xavier (Amy), Braylon & Maria (Brad), and Finn (Rob). He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) and Dorothy (Berry) Monnett. Buck and Ann met at a school dance when they were young.

Calling hours will be held on October 4, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Snyder Funeral Home, Richardson Davis Chapel, followed by a memorial service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on October 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Immediately following the service, a celebration of life will be held at the St. Joe’s activity center.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research hospital or a charity of choice in Buck’s memory. His legacy of love, community service, and spirited enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
