Ralph Emil Blackford, age 75 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023.  Born on Christmas Day, 1947, Ralph was a cherished gift to his late parents, Marvin and Doris Blackford.

A proud alumnus of Colonel Crawford High School, Class of 1965, Ralph furthered his education in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met his beloved wife of 56 years, Charmaue Thompson.  The two married and embarked on a journey of love, family, and shared adventures.

Ralph honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972, a period which he displayed commendable dedication and bravery.  He was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict.  After returning home, he spent his work career as a Plant Engineer overseeing maintenance and teaching “Box Making 101” for International Paper. Ralph lived in 10 different cities across the U. S.  He retired to Louisville, Kentucky in 2009.

Ralph had a deep passion for riding motorcycles.  After retirement, he enjoyed embarking on motorcycle trips across the United States.  In 2015, he embarked on a journey around the U.S. that lasted 4 weeks.  While he cherished the freedom of riding his motorcycle, it always reminded him of riding horses when he was young.

Ralph will be remembered and is survived by his devoted wife, Charmaue; children, Michele Blackford and Chris Blackford {Debbie}; grandchildren, Brandon and Shauna Blackford; brother, Paul Blackford (Vicki) and sister, Marcia Hudson (James); brothers-in-law, Randall Thompson (Laura) and Ronnie Thompson (Kim); sister-in-law, Debbie Thompson; and best friend, Bonnie Nolte. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  His legacy of warmth and guidance will live on through them.  Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Alvin and Mae Thompson, as well as his brother, Carl and brother-in-law, Hansel Thompson.

A memorial service, with full military honors, is scheduled to take place in the near future, where Ralph will be laid to rest at a Military Cemetery.  The exact date and location will be announced at a later time.

The Blackford family wishes to extend an invitation to all who knew Ralph to join in commemorating a life rich in service, love, and spirited adventure.  His absence will be profoundly felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he left behind.
