Philip Peter Yochem, age 85, of Crestline, Ohio was welcomed to heaven on October 1, 2024. Phil was born on July 5, 1939, in Galion, Ohio to the late Donald J. and Ellanora A. Yochem (nee Redman). Phil attended The Ohio State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served 4 years and earned a good conduct medal for service.  After the Navy he began his civilian career in electronics where he worked in Quality Control at North Electric and Peco II in Galion. After retirement, Phil picked up a part-time job delivering medical supplies for Caring Solutions.

Phil was a devout catholic and a member of St. Joseph Church in Crestline. He was also a member of the Crestline Park board and spent many years improving the swimming pool and park for the community. Phil enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching westerns and sports, especially The Ohio State football, the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland “Indians”. His favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren.

Phil will be remembered by many for his infectious smile and kind words. Phil always had his family guessing when it came to his stories…were they actually true or a tall tale? Only Phil knew that answer!

Phil is survived by his wife Carolyn (nee Smith) of 61 years, his daughter Tracie (Jerry) Forgette and his son Jeff (Rashell, nee Goble). His legacy lives on in his five grandchildren: Cameron Forgette, Nicholas Forgette, Zoe Yochem, Jayden Yochem, and Cameron Licht. Other survivors include his brothers/sisters-in-law: Karen Yochem, Bob (Patti) Rowland, Don (Pat) Rowland, Jim (Mary Pat) Rowland, and Ron Smith. He is preceded in death by his son Craig Yochem, brother Dan Yochem, and sister-in-law Becky Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Arthur G. James Cancer hospital, the Crestline Nursing home and Avita Hospice for their loving care of Phil.

Visitation will be from 9-11am, Friday, October 11 at Mark A Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 W Main St, Crestline, Ohio.  Funeral service will be held at 11am by Father Jeff Smith. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
