Norman John Gerster, 92 of Crestline, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the Crestline Nursing Home.

Norman was born on June 13, 1929, in Crestline to the late Charles and Frances (Kurtzman) Gerster.

Norman was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crestline. He was also a member of the Galion Moose Lodge #303. Norman served his country honorably in the U.S Army during the Korean War. He worked as a tool and die maker at American Electrical Products in Mansfield for many years and retired in 1994. While he was in the army, Norman played baseball. He also participated in a Golden Gloves tournament in Marion. Norman enjoyed being outside and soaking in the views while riding his motorcycle, where he covered a lot of miles. He was an avid hunter, traveling to Wyoming and Montana to hunt elk, bear, and deer. Norman loved dancing and even attended the Arthur Murray Dance School. He cherished time spent over breakfast with his friends.

Norman is survived by his children, Scott (Ginger Meadows) Gester of Crestline, Rosann Gerster of Crestline, Jolene (Troy) Shawber of Bucyrus; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Gerster, grandson, Specialist Richard Yosick, his siblings, Howard, Paul, Elmer, Charles, and Vincent Gerster, Helen Gira, and Theresa Dudley.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St., Crestline from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, August 2, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 331 N. Thoman St., Crestline with Father Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shelby where full military honors will be rendered.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
