Mildred Faye “Millie” Mitchell, 97, of Galion, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Signature Healthcare, Galion after a long illness.

Millie was born in Rowan County, KY on September 8, 1920 to the late Robert and Carrie (Roberts) Cox.  She married Jack L. Mitchell on November 24, 1937 and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1992.

Millie had been a Christian since she was 14 years old and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Crestline. She had been a Sunday School teacher, enjoying teaching her faith to the future generations. The family believes she had enough faith for everyone! A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved to spend time with her family. Millie enjoyed shopping and had a passion for cooking and reading recipe books.

She is survived by her son, James L. Mitchell of Medina; her daughters, Shirley A. Hill of Galion, whom she had made her home with and was Mildred’s caregiver, and Bonnie and Jonah Keaton of Galion; her 12 grandchildren; her numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ronald Cox of Wisconsin.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tonya Campbell; her great-grandson, Joey Coots; and her brothers and sisters, Unadell Corwin, Vivian Norris, Barbara Pryor, Robert Cox, Harold Cox, Estelle Stone, and Janet Boylan.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion, with Dallas Waggle officiating.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
