Matthew Eric Roseberry, 47 of Prospect, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Matthew was born on September 26, 1976, in Marion to Gary Roseberry and Mona (Mayes) Keller.
Matt’s journey began at Northmor schools til 8th Grade where he would then transfer to Colonel Crawford graduating in 1995. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ashland University in 2000. While at Ashland University Matt was a scholarship member of the baseball team all four years. Matt would later complete his education with a Master’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University.
Matt’s love and talent for sports led him to become a beloved Physical Education teacher and coach positively impacting the lives of countless students through his mentorship and guidance. In recent years to the present, Matt could be found on the baseball field umpiring. He continued his positive impact on players even behind the plate. He loved reconnecting with teammates, friends, and coaches whose own children are now playing. He was requested often to umpire because of his love, fairness, and knowledge of the game.
Throughout his life, Matt found solace and fulfillment in the world of sports, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. His athletic prowess was highlighted by a home run during his last at-bat of his career in the NCAA tournament, a feat that will be remembered by all who witnessed it. Matt’s love for fishing, particularly in Lake Erie aboard his grandpa’s restored boat, showcased his appreciation for the simple joys of life. He spent many hours fishing with his grandpa from a very early age. Matt was a huge Notre Dame fan.
Matt will be remembered for his heart of gold, his willingness to help anyone in need, his big smile, and his proudest accomplishment of all, his daughter, Emma, he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Matt’s memories will be cherished by his mother and step-father: Mona and Michael Keller; father and step-mother, Gary and Jacky Roseberry; daughter, Emma Roseberry; sister, Abbi (Joseph) Binnix; half-sister, Katalina Roseberry; paternal grandmother, Barbara Roseberry; grandparents, Jerry and Marilyn Keller; step-sisters, Chelsea (Jack) Ellison, Katie (Vinnie) Camacho, and Hallie Jackson; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews including Madden, Knox, and Mila Binnix.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edgar Roseberry; grandparents, James and Sally Mayes; and aunt, Patti Reames.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 am with family friend Les Wenger officiating.
