Mary E. Blum, 98, a longtime resident of Galion, died Friday, April 20, 2018 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
Mary was born May 9, 1919 in Carbondale, Ohio to the late John and Mary (James) Landis. She graduated from Marshfield High School and in 1939 and she married Woodrow Blum. They enjoyed nearly 74 years of marriage before his passing in 2013.
Mary was a typical mother who did everything for her family. Meals were prepared, their home was neat and tidy, she enjoyed sewing and embroidering, kept up with the laundry and made sure that everything was ironed. She was very family oriented and enjoyed decorating the home for each holiday season. Following church on Sunday, the afternoon was reserved for a family feast; a tradition not as common today.
Mary was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Galion where she had been active with the Ladies Aid Society and the Women’s Circle. At one time, she had quite a collection of dog figurines and she enjoyed shopping. Whether in a store or through a catalog, there was always a deal to be had. She loved having her daughter style her hair which occurred every other Thursday and for relaxation, she often read or bird watched with blue jays and cardinals being her favorites.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Patricia Dissett, Diana Crall, and Debra Blum-Sizemore; eight grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Sue McCrory.
A graveside funeral for Mary will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 23 in the chapel at Crawford County Memory Gardens. Donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories of Mary are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
