Marion McVay “Mick” Amstutz, son of Roger and Margaret (Crall) Amstutz. Marion grew up with his three brothers, Gail (Peggy) Amstutz, Norman (Debbie) Amstutz , Kevin Amstutz and a sister Heather (Mark) Thomas in a small town just East of Bucyrus, Ohio called Sulphur Springs.
He attended Colonel Crawford where in high school he ran cross country and was on the swim team. Marion, who was called “Mickey” by some, later went on to attend North Central Technical College getting a degree in Engineering.
Marion moved out of Sulphur Springs to pursue his life in Polk Ohio where he spent the next 30 years. During these 30 years the relationship with his family faded but was quickly rekindled when events in his life brought him back to Crawford County. He was a kindhearted but quiet man who all who encountered him quickly grew to love him. Always giving and rarely complaining even as his health declined and hardships backed him into a corner. Marion had a love for wood working and as a young man he made hope chests and various pieces of furniture for his family. He expressed the importance of family and held dear friends close to his heart. Marion loved his dogs, Snickers and Blondie, who had to be rehomed as his health declined, but he was comforted in the fact that they were being cared for and loved.
On August 24, 2018, at the age of 61, Marion passed away peacefully under the care of Kindred Hospice at Signature Health Care of Galion. This is where in his brief time, he built some very special relationships, making what could have been an unpleasant situation a good experience. Not only did he bond quickly with many of the staff but also with his nightly Euchre Group which also included his special significant other, Bonnie.
The family of Marion “Mickey,” wants to express their heartfelt thanks to the people who work at The Smith Clinic in Marion, Ohio. Mickey spent more than his share of days/hours there for the past 7 months and the compassion you showed him during the many hours he had to “hang out” is truly a blessing. The smiles on your faces, the blankets offered to keep him warm while he waited, the transports from one area to the other, the food vouchers and just stopping to ask if he was “okay” or “needed anything” go farther than you can ever imagine.
To follow with Marion’s wishes there will be no services.
Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes in Galion is honored to serve the family of Marion Amstutz, and condolences may be made to them at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
