Marie Cecelia (Meyer) Dallas, 75, of Galion, Ohio was a generous, supportive and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passed away after a brief battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio with her children and husband by her side.
She was born February 1, 1947 in Erie, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late James L. and Bertha (Ruf) Meyer. Marie is survived by her husband of 55 years, George James Dallas whom she married on October 1, 1966.
She graduated from St. Benedicts Academy in 1965 and soon moved to the Galion area with George where they raised three children together. She was an incredible mother who selflessly went above and beyond to love her family and provide opportunities for them. She did this not out of obligation but because of who she was.
Marie was also well loved in her small community and was active with the former Galion Welcome Wagon, Boy Scout Den Mother, Galion Booster Club, former Social Director of the Galion Country Club and former President of the Galion United Way where she organized numerous charity events. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion.
Known as “Nana” by her beloved grandchildren, she will be remembered as sweet, vibrant, hilarious, talented and selfless. She enjoyed many creative hobbies like knitting afghans, creating floral arrangements, crafting, sewing outfits and painting, and always shared these gifts and talents with others. Marie was an avid reader, especially historical fiction and couldn’t let a crossword puzzle go without completing it. Her meticulously designed Christmas trees would rival any department store and earned her the family title “Marvelous Marie’s Country Christmas”. Marie’s sense of humor left many in stitches, like when she threw herself a “surprise” 60th birthday party. She was a true “Buckeye”, enjoying season tickets to football and hockey with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, son, James “J.D” Dallas, daughter, Rita (Brent) Ludington all of Columbus and son, Michael Thomas Dallas of Ontario; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Hali) Dallas, Nick Masucci, Joe Masucci, Andrew Dallas, Olivia Stapleton, James Dallas and Xander Dallas; four sisters, Jean (Fred) Beckwith, Peggy (Dave) Ogle, Barb Hill all of Erie, Pennsylvania and Bernadette (Sam) Lewis of Galion; brother, James Meyer of Erie, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Mary (Dave) Learn of Erie, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law, James (Maureen) Dallas of Monroeville, Pennsylvania; special niece, Kati Gilmer; special nephew, Sammy Lewis and many other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty Street Galion, Ohio with Father Paul Fahrbach as Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Galion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kobacker House in care of the funeral home.
