Margaret Ann “Peg” Songer, 86, of Galion passed away Tuesday evening, January 23, 2018 at the Galion Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1931 in Binghamton, New York and was the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Edgell) Hamburg. On April 25, 1953 she married Calvin J. Songer and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his passing on January 30, 2014.

 

Peg was a homemaker for most of her life and had worked at various places over the years, including the North Central Special Education Center where she worked as a secretary and St. Paul United Methodist Church both in Galion. She was devoted to her faith as a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion. She was active with the Valley View Women’s Golf Association and the TWIG 5 at Galion Community Hospital. Peg was formerly a Girl Scout Leader for a number of years and enjoyed winning card games, dancing, bowling, golfing and spending time with her family.  Many family and friends enjoyed beautiful quilts and sweaters that she made for them.

 

She is survived by five children, Mark (Lois) Songer of Key West, Florida, Tim (Martha Kniseley) Songer of Charlotte, North Carolina, Linda (Jack) Kidwell of Galion, Bridget (Jeff) Sutton of Galion and Mike (Abby) Songer of Marion; nine grandchildren, Mia Carrasco-Songer, Gina Carrasco-Songer, Dylan Carrasco-Songer, Kerry Sutton, Kasey Sutton, Kaitlyn Sutton, Scott Kidwell, Joseph Songer and Anna Songer and two brothers Harry (Ethel) Hamburg of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania and William (Brenda) Hamburg of Nashville, Tennessee.

 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Tom Hamburg.

 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a vigil service will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty St. Galion, Ohio with Father Paul Fahrbach and Father Tony Borgia as celebrants. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Galion.
