Luella LaRue, 90, of Galion passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.
Born August 29, 1932 in Galion, she was the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Craner) Sulser. She married Riley O. “Smokey” LaRue on April 2, 1949 and he preceded her on September 26, 2012.
Luella was a member of South View Baptist Church in Galion where she and her sister served as the Hospitality Hostesses. She worked as a waitress at the former Ritchey House in Galion and was a Supervisor for the former ITT North Electric from 1965 until it closed. She enjoyed baking cakes and cookies, and would deliver trays of cookies to businesses, she also enjoyed decorating cakes, sewing, camping with family, refinishing, and caning furniture, remodeling houses and during retirement enjoyed landscaping.
Luella is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Schiefer of Iberia and Marilyn Wert of Lexington; two sons, Mark (Rhonda) LaRue of Galion and Darin (Tayna) LaRue of rural Galion; 13 grandchildren, Renna (Jeff) Burns, Ronalee (Steve) Clever, Robert (Susan) Gekler, Rebecca (Vickie) Gollihue, Tidus (Amanda) Kissling, Stephanie (Jason) Mathis, MaryAmber (Jeremy) Hughes, Heidi (Dave) Scherpelz, Levi (Lindsey) Wert, Valerie Fraizer & Michael Vanbuskirk, Nathan LaRue, Dee LaRue and Melissa LaRue; 26 great-grandchildren ; 12 great great-grandchildren; extended family, Pat Plott and Kathy (John) Cook.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Steven LaRue;, sister, Marlene LaRue; brother, Verlin Sulser; son-in-law, Todd Wert; two half-sisters, Marie Nash and Helen Stahl; half-brother, Fred Sulser who perished on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor;
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service on Thursday, February 16, with Cliff Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
