Lilburn Daniel “Dan” Samples, 90, of rural Galion passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

 

He was born May 14, 1931 in Tiro, Ohio and was the son of the late Joseph and Hazel (Baldinger) Samples. Dan is survived by his wife of 71 years, Beverly (Cramer) Samples whom he married on February 17, 1951.

 

He graduated from Lexington High School in 1950 and wanted to join the United States Navy but was refused because he was an only son and a farmer. In the early years, Dan worked for his father at Slim’s Refrigeration and Sears for 12 years. He retired after working many years with the former Levering Brothers in Cardington. After retirement, he stayed busy volunteering and mowing the trails at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary.

 

Dan absolutely loved the outdoors and that included golfing, cutting wood and animals, especially cats and birds. He also enjoyed woodworking projects in his workshop, reading and word search puzzles. Dan was a member of the Daughters of America

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Brenda (Paul) Gosser, Bruce (Brenda) Samples, Bradley (Dena) Samples, Brent (Teri) Samples, Barry (Frances) Samples, Timothy Samples and friend Lynda; eleven grandchildren, Kevin Gosser, Mike Gosser, Steve Gosser, Greg Gosser, Amy Hackedorn, Shanna Stapleton, Monica Steele, Taelhr Bell, Parkerr Samples, Kaine Houchens and Joshua Jones and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833.  A funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Corwin officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary in care of the funeral home.
