Kenneth Albert Parr, Jr., 74, of Crestline, Ohio, died on August 26, 2024.
Ken was born in Crestline on October 11, 1949, to the late Kenneth A. and Emma L. (Will) Parr Sr. He married Susan E. Merrill on August 14, 1971, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green, Ohio, and she survives him.
Ken attended Crestline High School and graduated in the Class of 1968. He then attended the United Electronics Institute trade school in Cuyahoga Falls. Ken was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, and a Third and Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Msg. Leo W. Frye Council #2642, Crestline. Ken served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War in Alpha Company 1/506 Infantry, 101st Airborne Airmobile Division. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 488, VFW Post 2920, both of Crestline, and the AMVETS Post #1979, Galion. Ken enjoyed his membership in Kiwanis for twenty-five years.
He owned and worked at the Parr Insurance Agency until his retirement on April 1, 2016, after 45 years of service. He was a member of the National Professional Insurance Agents and the Ohio Professional Insurance Agents. He was also a life member of the Firemark Society, a sales organization. Ken was an active part of the Crestline Community and a former President of the Shunk Museum. Ken was a member of the Community Counseling Service for fifteen years and was President of the Board of Directors when the new building was constructed. He sat on the Board of Directors of United Bank/Division of Park National from 1997 to 2017.
Ken enjoyed golfing, sewing, quilting, embroidery, and surprises. For his granddaughter’s ninth birthday, he surprised each of them with a sewing machine and a pair of scissors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Eric K. and Adrienne M. Parr, Mansfield; his daughter, Erin E. and Justin R. Meats, Columbus; his seven grandchildren, Caroline E. Parr, Anna K. Parr, Simon D. Parr, Katelyn A. Meats, Ella G. Meats, Isaac M.J. Meats, and Haley C. Meats; his Aunt, Naomi E. Beard; his Brother-in-law, Howard L. Anderson and Cissy F. Anderson and Marcia A. Biancone along with nieces and nephews Greg and Catherine Biancone, AJ and Lori Biancone, Amy and Chip Whalen, and Jenny Anderson.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Schneider Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 331 North Thoman St., Crestline with Fr. Jeff Smith, Celebrant. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
