Karen A. Smith, 79, of Galion, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born November 17, 1941, in Bucyrus and was the daughter of the late Gail and Alice (Caskey) Crall. On April 2, 1961, she married Byron D. Smith and he preceded her in death after 54 years on September 1, 2015. 

Karen was a 1959 graduate of Whetstone School. She was a homemaker, proud farm wife, and former 4-H advisor. Karen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Robinson and enjoyed her Red Hat Ladies, Dutchtown Dillies. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and quilting. In their later years, she and Byron enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, and following their granddaughter’s activities. 

Karen is survived by her three daughters, Penne L. Smith of New Marshfield, Connie L. Smith of Albion, Michigan, and Roberta “Bobbie” L. (Douglas) Shawhan of Cincinnati; Granddaughter Darby G. Shawhan of Cincinnati and a sister, Carla Sauselen of Bucyrus. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833, and one hour prior to the service on Monday starting at 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3 at the funeral home with Earl Smith officiating. Burial will be in Campbell Cemetery, Bucyrus. 

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Anita Harris, Beth Pritchard, Anita Wurm, Kathy Burton, and Kristal Ash.
