John Spiroff, 84, of Columbus, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Bickford of Worthington, after a battle with dementia.

John was born in Chicago, IL on December 6, 1933 to the late Tasse “Joe” and Mary (Eiloff) Spiroff.  He married Frances J. (Griefenstine) Spiroff on December 5, 1960, and she survives him.

John was a Crestline High School graduate, Class of 1952.  He served his country for four years in the U.S. Army. He worked at General Motors for 30 years, and retired as a Press Room Supervisor.  John enjoyed coming home to Crestline to have his weekly “breakfast with the boys”. John enjoyed reading fiction, playing pool, watching it rain, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and The Tribe.  John umpired Little League, Pony League, and high school baseball.  He was an avid sports fan and never missed any of his children’s events.   He loved spending time at Walton Lake, fishing, playing basketball, and especially swimming with his granddaughter, Nikki.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his son, Chris (Angel) Spiroff, Columbus, his daughter, Shelly Spiroff, Columbus, and his granddaughter, Gabrielle “Nikki” Spiroff.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Vasil Spiroff and nephew, George Spiroff.

Friends may call Monday, July 9, 2018 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 9 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Crestline, with Deacon Bill Horning officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline where full military honors will be given by the U.S. Army and the Galion-Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
