Joelene S. Phillips, 66, of Bucyrus, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Millcreek Nursing and Rehabilitation, Galion.
Joelene was born on January 13, 1953 to the late J. and Florence “Arlene” (Morton) Gelbach. She married Daniel D. Phillips on May 27, 1972 and he survives in Bucyrus. Joelene is also survived by her children: Alicia (Rick) Bishop, Victoria (Joe) McCleese and Amber (Jeremy) Looker; grandchildren: Shelby McCleese, J and Annie Bishop, Zach and Aingeal Looker, her sister Jean Rayl, a niece Laura Rayl and a nephew Scott Gelbach. She was preceded in death by her brother John Gelbach and brother in law Malcom Rayl.
Joelene was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Bucyrus and a 1971 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. Joelene was a member of the WOTM Chapter 177 in Galion where she went through all the chairs becoming Senior Regent in 1989 and was recorder from 1992-1995 receiving her star recorder degree. She also received her green cap, collegiate cap and gown and her red stoll. She was Ohio’s co-worker of the year for 1992-1993. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and reading. Joelene also enjoyed watching Kentucky Wildcats basketball. Joelene worked at numerous places throughout her life. She was a seamstress at Arlene’s Boutique in Galion and also worked at L&K in Bucyrus, HR’s Bar and Grill, and Tiger’s Den in Galion and finally Arby’s in Upper Sandusky.
A private ceremony will be conducted in the Tymochtee Cemetery for her family and close friends.
