Joe M. Sterner, 91, of Galion passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2017 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.
Born September 13, 1925 in Fredericktown, Penn., he was the son of Marcus and Gladys (Cadman) Sterner.
He worked as a process cameraman at Galion Printing for 28 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre aboard the U.S.S. Vicksburg. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, playing solitaire, reading and writing poetry and was known for his sense of humor.
He is survived by children, Evelyn (Ray) Stump of Crestline, Ed (Karen) Sterner of Galion and Rob Sterner of Galion; eight grandchildren, Dana Bunting, Arthur Sterner, Christopher Sterner, Bryan Huffstickler, Christian (William) Wolfe, Shannon (James) Baker, Marcus Sterner and Eric (Angela) Sterner; four step-grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, numerous step great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, William Sterner, sister , Alice Davis and a grandson, William Huffstickler.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 N. Thoman Street, Crestline, Ohio 44827 with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Ohio Hospice in care of the funeral home.
