Joan J. Heskett, 87, Galion, died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Signature Healthcare, Galion.

Joan was born in Galion, Ohio, June 6, 1930 to the late Clayton and Isabelle Howman.  She graduated from Galion High School in 1949.  During her high school years, she dreamed of becoming a nurse and worked at Galion Community Hospital as a Candy Striper.  Then along came Don Heskett and Joan’s plans of becoming a nurse went out the window.  She fell in love with Don and they were married on October 21, 1950 in Indiana.  The couple lived life to the fullest for 66 years of pure love and devotion. They moved into Timberline Area in 1971 and were known as the “Hesketts of Hollywood.”  Everyone loved them; they had a very special relationship as mom and dad, aunt and uncle, grandma and grandpa to the kids in the neighborhood.  Joan and Don touched every person’s life they met leaving a fingerprint on their hearts.  They often said “we made a lot of money and we spent a lot of money.”

During her life, Joan worked at Galion Allsteel Body Company, Timken Bearing, A.M Castle Steel, Galion Country Club, and Rosewood Manor.  She touched many hearts and minds along the way.  Her interests included travel, craft projects, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and generally having a heck of a good time.  But mostly Joan was absolutely lovingly devoted to her husband Don.

Joan is survived by her brother Richard and Jan Howman, Denver, CO, her nieces Michelle Esmailli, Denver, CO, Angela Howman, Aspen, CO, Linda Anderson, Denver, CO, brother-in-law Larry Giacin, Hollywood, FL, nephews Larry Giacin, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Michael Giacin, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  She is preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents, and her sister Carol.

Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. on September 9, 2017 at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion.  Graveside services will then be held at 1:15 P.M. at the Iberia Cemetery, Iberia, with Pastor Joe Stafford officiating.
