Joan A. Smith, 96, of Galion passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at Galion Pointe.
Born October 20, 1926 in Hackensack, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Edward G. and Pauline M. (Unangst) Gibson. She married William Henry Smith on October 21, 1945 and they enjoyed 71 years together until his passing on December 11, 2016.
She was a graduate of Teaneck High School in New Jersey. Joan worked as a reporter at the Galion Credit Bureau and later worked in food service at the former Galion Village Care Center in Galion. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Galion.
She is survived by daughters, Dr. Deborah Collier of Hazard, Kentucky and Suzanne K. (Michael) Negrete of Galion; grandchildren, Cindi Au, Johanna Mullins, Heather Negrete, Tony Negrete and Carrie Au and great-grandchildren, Brian Logan Spencer, Benjamin Spencer, Jr., Augustus Mullins and Abigail Elizabeth Mullins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by grandson Benjamin Spencer, Sr., sister Barbara E. Haley and an infant sister.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 N. Thoman Street, Crestline, Ohio 44827 with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
